The mission of the Manchester Senior Center is to promote socialization and community involvement, enhance independence, and enrich the lives of the older adults of Manchester.  The Center offers a comprehensive program of activities and services to meet the needs and interests of Manchester's seniors, encourage healthy lifestyles and support lifelong learning.

FAMILY FUN ~ RESOURCE INFORMATION ~ EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Classes in money saving strategies, stress relief techniques, energy savings approaches, using the internet for job searches and guided meditation will be offered.

Organizations that provide specific programs or services related to financial relief will staff information tables, answer questions and provide direct counseling.

There will be info available on financial services, energy savings, credit counseling, unemployment benefits, foreclosure counseling, consignment shops, coupons, discount food and leisure services.

PLEASE - DO NOT ENTER the Senior Center Parking Lot from the front of the building roadway

The ONLY ENTRANCE into the Senior Center Parking Lot is off of VERNON STREET

You may ENTER and EXIT from Vernon Street

BUT when leaving the parking lot from the front of the building YOU MAY ONLY EXIT out into the front roadway

Renter’s Rebate Program

The Senior, Adult & Family Services Division of the Town of Manchester begins completing applications for the State of Connecticut Renter’s Rebate Program starting May 15th and continuing to September 15, 2009. This program provides a one time yearly payment to renters based on income, rent and utilities that were paid from the previous year (2008). Applicants must be age 65 or over by 12/31/08 or be permanently and totally disabled of any age as defined by Social Security. The income limits (including Social Security) are as follows:

Qualifying Income Limit:

Single - $30,500,  Married - $37,300.

Please remember to bring the following items to your appointment:

All 1099’s for Social Security,

Pensions,

Any Bank accounts, stocks, etc. (showing interest earned),

Under age 65 and totally disabled, a TPQY/Proof of Disability or 1099 statement from Social Security showing your date of disability and benefit for 2008,

If you filed a tax return for 2008, bring  that along.

We also need:

Proof of rent paid for the year 2008,

Proof of gas or oil and electric paid for 2008,

Proof of water paid for 2008,

If you receive CRT Energy Assistance, please bring a copy of your award letter.

These can be in the form of cancelled checks or rental receipts, or a payment history printout from the utility company.
